Last week MBA student Ryan Loughlin and senior Rob Lawler won MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Year and MAC Field Athlete of the Year respectively. The two towering New Jersey natives, both who attended St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, N.J. with Loughlin graduating in 2011 and Lawler graduating in 2012, were awarded for their many accomplishments this season.
Loughlin, an attackman and captain of the lacrosse team, was honored for his career high 37 goals and 12 assists this season, totaling to 49 points. Additionally, he averaged 2.46 goals per game and recorded 44 groundballs on the year. Loughlin entered the season 10th in career points with 92 and finished with 141 making him sixth all time in DeSales history. He is also sixth all-time with 38 assists and fourth in goals all-time with 103.
Lawler finished first in the shot put, second in hammer and fourth in discus at the MAC Championship after placing fifth in shot put and fourth in hammer last year. This past winter during the Indoor MAC Championships he placed first in shot put and third in weight throw. Lawler also won the shot put at the Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championships and the Muhlenberg Invitational earlier this year. Furthermore, he was named MAC Field Athlete of the Week twice this season and he hopes to qualify for Nationals this Monday.
In addition to their success on the field, both Loughlin and Lawler have experienced success in the classroom. Both are accounting and finance majors, with Lawler graduating this May and Loughlin currently in the process of completing the fifth year MBA program DeSales Univeristy offers.
