With the chill of the fall and winter months enveloping the Lehigh Valley, no place feels cozier to get a deliciously hot meal and a cold pint like the Braveheart Highland Pub.

Just a 10-minute drive from DeSales, this Scottish dining delight had its name inspired by the famous 1995 film starring Mel Gibson about the Scottish rebel, William Wallace. However, the only rebelliousness to be found here is the in the boisterous patrons enjoying their meals and making new friends.

The pub first opened in December 2006 and has been serving up Scottishinspired dishes that everyone can enjoy. Some culturally-inspired sounding opinions include Haggis Hushpuppies, crisply fried in seasoned batter with a lagermustard sauce, and Scottish Meat Pie, served with onion gravy and hearty mashed potatoes. Feeling like a big spender? Then the Mince and Tatties is a perfect dish to sink your teeth into as it mixes grounded sirloin and vegetables into a fine blend of flavor.

Braveheart’s menu also includes more traditional pub fare in their burger and entrée sections. With names taken from people and places in Scotland’s history, their selection of the Wallace burger, Edinburger, and Bruce’s Chicken Sandwich are as rich and varied as the histories of Wallace, Robert the Bruce, and all of Edinburgh itself.

However, the burger that stands out is their Highland Burger, with freshly fried bacon toped with cheese, caramelized onions and BBQ sauce dripping down the sides. One should be warned, though ,that in taking on this burger, do not wear white, and make sure to have napkins at the ready. The menu also has lighter fare such as a grilled chicken flatbread and a variety of soups and salads to try. Their soup menu also has a rotating chef’s soup of the day to keep the patrons’ options interesting.

Not in the mood for food? Then pull up a stool at the dark oak bar to enjoy one of the 16 beers available on tap, including Guinness, Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, and Yuengling. The bar also offers a wide selection of wines and martini cocktails to choose from. Fun choices include the Milkshake, a mix of Kahlua and Bailey’s Tia Maria, the Caramel Apple, consisting of absolut vodka, apple schnapps, coffee liqueur and butterscotch, and the Surfer, which mixes Absolut, Malibu Coconut Rum, banana liqueur & a splash of pineapple.

Their wrap around bar also features several flat screens to catch the game, just in time for football season (American and European). The pub is also known for its trivia nights and rotating drink specials to keep things interesting for all new patrons and returning customers.

The pub also offers wide range of events such as drink tastings, comedy nights, guest meet-and-greets, and more! Be sure to check their website or social media pages, as these activities and events change on a monthly basis.

The pub also offers online ordering for patrons on-the-go as well as space available for rent if a private party or event is in need of a quaint venue.

Braveheart’s Highland Pub is located on Route 412 at 430 Main St, Hellertown, PA 18055. Braveheart’s also has a parking lot behind the premises, but be sure to get their early as this fills up pretty fast. But latecomers should not be discouraged by the limited number of parking spots as street parking is available as well.

So the next time you are on a pub crawl or want a tasty meal, Braveheart’s is right around the corner, ready to be of service.
